I ended up doing nothing these past few days–not even looking for interesting things for me to dig up, so I just want to post up this layout… You can download and use it for free–if you won’t remove the credits, that is. ^^  fms.png

Hosts, hosts, hosts….
Posted on August 31st, 2008 at 4:34 pm by sasha91

 I was making a website for a week or two for an IRC Channel. Almost got the site finished, I even got a free tagboard for it already.

Right now I’m stumbled to use Yahoo! search engine and look for:

Free web AND file hosting. I even thought of finding a site that hosts subdomains and cloaks up your URL for convenience. But the host is more important than URLs–they’re scattered around the net and you can just pick one.

In finding a free web host, you should get the best out of them, but you should be sure that their database can handle the numerous file uploads–I mean, see some free file hosting offering you a great space, like 2GB or above? And then one day they’ll disappear too. You sure wouldn’t want to make a site then one day get confused looking for it, right? What a pain. Anyway, I’m not saying that most free hosts disappear like that. There are just some sites that happen to be like that.

Another thing is the upload speed. There are sites that goes with this kind of scenario: You go to upload section, choose the files to upload, then you take hours and hours of uploading it! It’s probably because they’re too crowded–well, why not–look at the front page, they say they offer a big amount of space! O_o So what happens next? The usual scenario appears. (hope there are undiscovered sites with great space… =p)

I came up with a list of few good hosting sites (may be web, file, or temporary hosting.) I just read the features on the site, if some of thoseI mentioned are not true, leave a comment. =)

OrbitFiles - gives you free 6GB file storage space. Added up features like adding friends and selling your files! More features here.

4Shared - Offers 5GB free space for your files like music, videos, photos, etc. 100MB file size limit, subscription term is 30days since last login.

SynthaSite - 100% Free, no ads, can customize your website, free subdomain/hosting, no additional download

Tozm.com - Free short URL and subdomain. It offers free URL redirection–from free subdomains to free path forwarding. No ads included.

RunHost - Free 250MB disk space, 200GB bandwidth, free MySQL database, No ads/popups, instant activation

SnapDrive - Offers 5GB storage space for your files. They have sharing widgets like streaming MP3 player and share almost everything. Hotlinking or direct-linking is also allowed, which isn’t in other file storage sites. You can make your files public, private, or even password-protected.

FileDen - Free account gives you 1GB personal storage space, 50MB file size limit (every file you upload should not exceed 50MB), 5GB monthly bandwidth, and allowed hotlinking of your files to share everywhere.

Fxts.net - offers 250MB disk space, web mail, password-protected folders, File manager and FTP Account. More features on the site.

YourFileLink -  This site won’t waste your time to register for a username and password. You can simply upload a file and they’ll give the link to you, along with the link that deletes your file (in case you’re gonna delete it). File size limit is 5GB. This one’s good for someone who wants to upload-and-share files immediately. I’ve tried it a while ago. No hassle ^^

Gogax -  their free accounts makes 300MB storage space, 10 POP email accounts, 1GB monthly bandwidth traffic, and no ad banners.

A Few Fiction Glimpse (August)

fvdth.jpg A Forever Death
Michael W. Sherer

* Summary (just revised it)
Emerson Ward, a Chicago freelance writer and a reluctant sleuth, is making his way into finding out who shot his friend, the photographer Brady “Puppy” Barnes. He was originally asked by Brady to look for the thief who stole the missing gems from his studio and replaced them with fakes. It made Emerson think that this was an inside job–that someone who works–or used to work–in the studio or the ad agency was the suspect.

While Emerson works part-time writing annual reports in an agency, he gets closer to the murderer while poking around the studio (and the people), making him discover a few motives for murder. In addition to that were a nasty scandal from Brady’s family, a murdered judge and unflattering details about Brady, making Emerson think he still doesn’t know his friend that well. He soon realizes that pictures speak a thousand words–especially in murder.

* Everything from my own view
I don’t want to start it off by saying that I liked this story, probably I liked it because I’ve read it, but let’s not get to the cliched start.

At first I didn’t like Sherer’s alter ego for misbehaving at the start towards some girl, but as I flipped through the pages I found out that he’s likable, open-minded, and well, a procrastinator when it comes to work (he’ll explain why if you read it). Oh, and yes, he left me an impression of a ladies’ man throughout the story which, I think, isn’t bad at all. He’s always the part of every story since he’s the one narrating everything. His personality is so realistic that he could walk right off the pages, giving me the interest and the urge to read the book some more. On the other hand, Brady Barnes, a great photographer, the big man in the story. When I’ve read through a flashback in the story, he’s the type that could often be challenged by some punks down the street–that’s his reputation. As you’ve read in the summary, he’s been called “Puppy”, which fits him for Emerson’s description about him. At first he asked Emerson to just find the gems, but soon the reluctant sleuth finds not a thief anymore, but a murderer, making him discover who Brady really is.

The way the story was narrated was good, it made me picture each of every scenarios described in the book. You know, you can imagine things very quickly. However, there’s a part that makes my stomach want to tumble on its own because of the clear description–it’s about the murderer scrambling the victim’s brain–that some queer can vomit because of reading that part. But it’s still a good thriller–for sure you wouldn’t put it down once you read it! =)

My Desktop

Just made my desktop like this few days ago. Well it turned out great, thanks to WindowBlinds! The skin’s name is Diamond, although I changed the color a bit–you know how I love pink! The wallpaper? I made it on my own using Adobe Photoshop CS2. Of course, why would I use a skin without a matching pink wallpaper? Want the wallie? You can tell me if you want a copy. =)

(I’m planning to make a matching premade layout for this wallpaper too. ^^)

I’m itching to make a layout for this blog… But I still don’t know if I could tweak the settings or not. Will see later ^^

ciao =)
